Terms of Service for Students

Who we are

Dissemi is a live tutoring marketplace that connects Students with Tutors for real-time, one-to-one video Sessions. Dissemi is operated by Dissemi [legal entity — to be formed] ("Dissemi", "we", "us"). These Terms apply to you when you use Dissemi as a Student. By creating an Account or using Dissemi as a Student, you agree to these Terms and to our Privacy Policy for Students.

Who can use Dissemi

You must be 18 or older to use Dissemi. We do not verify age today, so by signing up you confirm that you are at least 18. If we learn that someone is under 18, we may close their Account.

Your Account and Profiles

You sign up once and get one Account. An Account has a separate Student Profile and a separate Tutor Profile. Each Profile has its own Stars and its own Standing, and neither carries over to the other. If you also tutor on Dissemi, you accept the Tutor documents separately, when you first use the tutor side. These Terms cover only your Student Profile. You are responsible for keeping your sign-in details safe and for what happens under your Account. If we suspend an Account, the Suspension applies to the whole Account, both Profiles included.

Asking for a Session

You start with the Guide, a short set of questions about what you need help with: the subject, the topic, your level and your language. You can add Attachments, such as a photo of the problem, to show what you are stuck on. Your answers become a Request, and the Request is offered to Tutors who teach that subject at that level and in that language. The Tutor who accepts it sees your name, photo, Request and Attachments.

Sessions

A Session is a live, one-to-one Call between a Student and a Tutor. A Session begins when a Tutor accepts your Request, and it stays live until you end it. A Tutor can leave the Call, but only the Student ends the Session. You can chat with your Tutor during the Session.

Pricing and cancellation

For on-demand Sessions, the price shown on the price screen before you confirm is the price you pay. We show it up front, and it does not change after you confirm.

You can cancel a Request at any time. Cancelling within the first 2 minutes after you confirm costs nothing. After that, cancelling records a cancellation fee, a percentage of the price shown to you, and the searching screen shows the exact amount before you confirm the cancellation.

Conduct

Be respectful and honest. Do not harass anyone, share unlawful content, misuse the Call, or try to take Sessions or payments outside Dissemi. Do not share Attachments or chat messages that you do not have the right to share. We may remove content, and we may suspend an Account for misconduct. You can write to us to ask us to review a Suspension.

Stars and Standing

After each Session, the Student and the Tutor rate each other. Ratings are mutual and required. They feed Stars, the average of the ratings a Profile has received, and Standing, a score that sets matching priority. Your Student Profile has its own Stars and Standing, and a Tutor sees your Stars on the offer. We may adjust how they are calculated.

No recording

Dissemi does not record Sessions, neither the video nor the audio. Please do not record them yourself either, unless the other person has agreed.

Disclaimers and limitation of liability

Tutors are independent of Dissemi, and we do not guarantee the quality of a Session or any result from it. Dissemi is provided "as is". To the fullest extent the law allows, Dissemi is not liable for indirect or consequential losses, and our total liability for any claim is limited to the amount you paid to Dissemi in the three months before the claim. Some places do not allow these limits, so they may not apply to you.

Changes to these Terms

We may update these Terms or the Privacy Policy for Students. Each version is identified by its effective date. When we publish a new version, you must accept it again before you continue to use Dissemi as a Student. We never interrupt a live Call to ask.

Governing law

These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of Illinois and applicable US federal law. [Counsel may move this to Delaware on incorporation.]
